Reviews roundup – Inglorious vs. Claus Hassing vs. Luxuriant Sedans
New kids on the block Inglorious fronted by one time Jesus Christ Superstar / Andrew Lloyd Webber telly contestant, Nathan James (who later toured with the much more respectable Trans-Siberian Orchestra), are on course to be one of the hottest bands of 2016, if this is anything to go by.
Of course, I would say that, what with being of a certain age, and lamenting the dearth of honest to goodness seventies and eighties styled hard rock. But that’s what you get here, something that is apparent from the Deep Purple keyboard flourish that heralds the opening ‘Until I Die’.
And it’s non stop quality from then on in, as the band set about their job in feisty manner. There are classy riffs stacked on high, and if you didn’t know better, you’d reckon this was a band at the peak of their career, not the beginning. The title track is an absolute belter, and if you’re looking for a reason to buy, then stream that before handing over your pennies.
If they can perform this well live, then they will definitely be a band to follow. And there is a UK tour to coincide with the album;

Open Your Heart
Some West Coast adult contemporary AOR from Denmark. And it’s good.
For some reason it’s Bryan Adams that springs to mind, although it’s the good, early Bryan Adams, not the later, rubbish Spice Girls, so I’m grateful for that. He’s a good singer, who has penned some excellent songs, and this is the kind of thing that makes AOR fans go a bit moist, so if he can get heard in the right places, then he could do well for himself.
Granted, it’s all very mid-eighties, but musically that can be a good thing, on songs like ‘Girl Next Door’ and ‘Hotel Room’. Granted, it’s a bit overlong at sixteen tracks, so he might have been better holding the acoustic numbers back for a follow-up EP. That aside, this is an excellent album.
Blues rock from North Carolina courtesy of the Luxuriant Sedans. They’ve all got form going back years, so there is no doubting that they’ve got the chops to pull off his cover heavy release.
It’s gritty and riff driven, and they pull out all the stops on songs like the Ry Cooder/Terry Evans penned ‘Got To Keep Moving’, Walter Trouts ‘Willie’ (fnaar fnaar) and the Robben Ford penned ‘Prison Of Love’. The only bum steers are the always dreadful ‘Cold Turkey’ courtesy of John Lennon and the closing live track ‘Rooster Blood’ which jars with the rest of the album.
Frontman Mike “Wezo” Wesolowski has a lived in voice and an excellent way with a moothie, and with the rest of the band riding hard, this is an enjoyable blues rock release.
