Fronted by Tim Meaco (Vocals/guitar), with Jameel Majam (Bass), Samuel Sheumack (Guitar) and Steve “Woodie” Woodward (Drums), The Lockhearts formed in Sydney’s inner west over a shared love of Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and hot sauce. They began crafting their signature bell-bottom swagger and delivering explosive performances over an 18-month residency, which began at Sydney’s Brighton Up Bar.
Formed in condemned venues and closed down coffee houses out of stardust and silicone. The Lockhearts are the archetypal band of brothers, looking for solace in opium den blues and hard rock swagger whilst wrestling to comprehend 4th dimensional spacetime and cetacean altruism via onstage destruction and cathartic cult melodies. The shotgun release of their 2015 double EP “Tales From The Sea” and national tour to follow, Meaco, Majam, Sheumack and Woodward spent the better part of the year living like gypsies out of the affectionately dubbed “Jean Claude Band Van”. After returning home to a further string of sold out shows and homegrown mini-festivals of their own inception, it was high time for some new material so the boys holed up into the band house and started writing. Following the sell-out success of The Lockhearts’ madnessfuelled “Old Mate’s Block Party” at The Factory (Sydney), the band had caught the eye of Golden Robot Records’ newly appointed A&R rep. After bonding over vintage Trans Ams and Led Zeppelin 8-tracks to match the band signed a worldwide recording deal.
Between recording drums in the stairwell, blowing up vintage amplifiers and selective live tracking to capture the band’s onstage energy, their debut full length album, Americana Doom Fuzz harks back to a golden fertile era when studio exploration/experimentation was young, and embodies The Lockhearts “keep it loose, keep it tight” approach to moody, guitar-driven songwriting.
As they hit the ground running along Australia’s East Coast, then joining The Lazys on the tour bus for an 8 day run from Stuttgart to London, The Lockhearts are about to really hit their straps and rein in a whole new bunch of fans.
